Joseph Fortier

July 12, 2005 — June 23, 2024

Joseph Fortier was born and raised in New Hampshire. A graduate of Moultonborough Academy, Joe went on to work full time for his father as a third-generation woodworker, a tradition with roots in both sides of his family and one he apprenticed in from the age of fourteen. In addition to this skill, Joe had aspirations of attending school in Maine for business and finance, of someday owning his own business and of traveling the world.

An intelligent, deep soul who loved getting to know others by questioning life beyond the surface, Joe made friends easily everywhere he went, with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. His generous sense of humor and warm heart fueled his appreciation for the foils of humanity and assisted him in his own growth throughout his life.

Joe enjoyed comedy in any form, good books, podcasts, food shared with friends, experimenting in the kitchen, writing, paddleboarding, swimming, canoeing, hiking, time in nature, travel and especially connecting with family and his cats. He was a deeply loving and affectionate son and grandson.

Joe is survived by his mother, Christina Alexa, his father, Paul Fortier, his step-father, Robert Hirschfield and his memere’, Lorraine Fortier, as well as extensive aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 4 at 1:00 pm at White Gates Farm at 2153 Cleveland Hill Rd, Tamworth, NH. (whitegates-farm.com) All are welcome. Participants will be invited to share “Joe Stories” in fond remembrance and to commune with friends. After the ceremony there will be pizza from White Gates Farm outdoor pizza oven and open mic style music (if you play, you are so welcome to bring an instrument or song). Potluck dishes are welcome but not necessary. If inspired, please bring hand-picked flowers from your own garden to place in mason jars we will provide.

His parents ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society in Meredith, NH or to Northwoods YMCA Camp for boys in Mirror Lake, NH.
