John R. Wood, Jr.

PLYMOUTH – On July 23, 2024, John Renfrew Wood, Jr. passed away peacefully. John was born at Livermore Hospital on October 27, 1938. John was the oldest son of John Renfrew. Sr. and Virginia (Watson) Wood. In addition to his deceased parents, his younger brother Dick passed away while John is survived by his sister, Terry Colby, who lives in Alexandria. John attended the Academy Street School in Laconia for grades 1-4. He attended Speare Elementary for grades 5 and 6 which was held at the Congregational Church in Plymouth followed by grades 7 and 8 in the Memorial Building. During his Plymouth High School years, John participated in Baseball, Basketball, and Football. He graduated from Keene State College in 1961 with his academic program in industrial arts. During his time at KSC, he participated in Varsity Tennis for 4 years, although he was recruited for baseball. After teaching at Weare, Henniker High Schools, and Ash Street School in Manchester for six years, he went to work for Harvey Construction. During this time, he held positions that included sewer and water construction and backhoe operator for the interstate highway. He later worked for the Plymouth Manufacturing Company and replaced his father, upon his retirement, with the Plymouth Water & Sewer department until 1986. He held the following positions at the Water Plant – laborer, plant operator, plant foreman and chief operator. In addition, he had worked for Denny Dearborn, Burt Currier, and Wallace Morabito. John was such an out-going and kind man who enjoyed all sporting events in the town including Plymouth Regional High School, Plymouth State University, as well as town-wide events during the past several decades.
He will be missed. There will be no calling hours nor gravesite service.
