MEREDITH — John “Jack” Harley Prescott, 84 of Meredith passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, following a brief stay at Golden View Healthcare Center.

Jack was born October 9, 1939, to Robert Sumner Prescott & Mildred Arlene (Giles) Prescott. He attended Meredith schools, Cardigan Mountain School and graduated from Laconia High School in 1957, where he went for their industrial arts program. Jack continued his studies at Manchester Technical Institute earning a degree in Building Trades.

Upon graduation, he worked for Rene Gilbert maintaining properties prior to becoming co-owner of Keytown Builders in Meredith. After retirement, he did small jobs around the Lakes Region as Jack Prescott Building & Remodeling.

Jack also owned & operated Winni-Waukee Kennels in the 60’s and early 70’s, where he raced sled dogs along with his brothers Bryan & Bill. He also maintained a route delivering Purina grain products locally. It was during his sled dog racing days that he met his future wife, Bette. They married in 1967 and built a home in Meredith.

He was a former member of Meredith Sno-Streakers Snowmobile Club, Pittsburg Ridge-Runners Snowmobile Club, and the Laconia Lodge of Elks #876.

In 1979, Jack and Bette purchased land in Pittsburg, NH where they built their camp, “Kilcair”. He often referred to Pittsburg as God’s country and loved every second he spent there.

Jack loved music, especially classic country music. Every spring, he looked forward to working in his vegetable and flower gardens, taking great pride in them. He enjoyed watching old movies and shows including Abbott & Costello, the Little Rascals, with Ma & Pa Kettle movies being his favorite.

Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bette (Stevens) Prescott of Meredith. His daughters, Kimberly Prescott Caldwell (Jason) of Laconia and Kathleen Prescott Greene (David) of Moultonboro.
