John Palmer Learned, 100, of Moultonborough, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Lakes Region Hospital, in Laconia, after a brief illness.
Born in Newburyport, MA on November 2, 1912, he was the son of Henry Coolidge and Adelaide Root (Palmer) Learned. John was raised in Newburyport attending local schools. John went on to graduate from the Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard University. After graduating from college he joined the Navy and proudly served his country in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII.
John was a bit of a naturalist who loved the environment of the Lakes Region and White Mountains. He very much enjoyed his retirement years in Moultonborough.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kathryn (Morris) Learned, in December, 1997, and a sister, Lorna Learned.
John is survived by his four daughters, Marsha Morrison, of Greenwich, CT, Melinda Stanojevic, of Yakima, WA, Lauchlan Learned, of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Langdon Halloway, of Brooklyn, NY; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
