John (Jack) Harrison Sheffield

October 25, 1946 — April 16, 2020

John (Jack) Sheffield, 73, of Campton NH died peacefully at home in the tender care of family, on April 16, 2020, after a long, courageous battle of declining health.

Born in Chicago, IL, Jack was the son of Peter and Mary (VanderLinda) Sheffield. His family moved to CT in the early 60's and he called that home for many years.

During his high school and college years (Hawthorne College NH), he lettered in three sports; tennis, football and ice hockey. It was a passion for hockey that he carried his entire life. Instilled in Jack by his father, he proudly passed on and shared the love of hockey with his son and grandson. Year's of coaching his son's hockey teams and catching a few of his grandson's games brought a tremendous amount of joy to his life.

Jack managed sales for his family's manufacturing and packaging company, Sheffield Tube for the majority of his working years. He also worked in merchandising and sales for a hardware company in CT. In his NH "retirement" years he enjoyed learning and working in the building and landscaping trades.

Jack was a lover of history and a gifted conversationalist. So many of his family and friends have expressed cherished memories of their casual chats with him and the wisdom he so effortlessly shared. Hiking, skiing, fishing and boating on Squam Lake, and the simple everyday pleasures of home and time with family and friends are what filled Jacks life and heart. Jack and Sally, his wife of 25 years, moved to NH in 2002 and enjoyed many outdoor adventures together and with family and friends. He was a dedicated partner in all things and was a blessing to Sally in helping care for her aging mother in their home for many years.

He is survived by this wife Sally, his son Hiram and his wife Meghan Sheffield of West Greenwich RI, his grandson Seamus and granddaughter Penelope...all of whom he as incredible proud of, his brothers, David Sheffield, Dorchester, NH and Peter Sheffield, CT. He considered his "in-law" siblings, their spouses and children as his own.

A celebration of his life is being planned for a future, socially safe time. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Squam Lake Association, Holderness NH.
