Jane Marie Weissmann, 77, of Bristol, NH, died peacefully at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on December 10, 2023. Jane was born in 1946, in New Haven, CT to Walter and Florence Sivigny. She grew up in Hamden, CT, and received her Master's Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University.
Her entire professional life involved working on behalf of people with developmental disabilities. After initially teaching special education classes in public schools, she was employed by the state of New Hampshire's Department of Education as a Special Education Administrator and consultant and was a strong advocate for the rights of disabled people.
She was married to Stephen Weissmann for 49 years until his death in 2018. In 1979 they purchased a historic farmhouse in Bristol, NH where she lived for 44 years. The house was a great source of pride for her.
After her retirement, Jane and her husband enjoyed traveling, taking many international cruises. Venice and Tuscany were among their favorite destinations. She also enjoyed taking bus tours throughout New England, New York, and the Southeast. Later in life, she took up skiing and became proficient, both on New Hampshire slopes and on trips to the Alps in Europe. Her love of music and musical theater, in particular, brought her great joy.
She is survived by her brother Walter Sivigny and his wife Victoria of Meriden, CT and a nephew Robert Sivigny of California.
Donations in Jane’s memory can be made to the Concord Regional ARC for the benefit of people with developmental disabilities and to the New Hampshire Humane Society.
