James Noble Pope

James Noble Pope, Jr., 77, of Thornton, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at his home after a brief illness. Born on May 3, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of James N. and Rebecca (Ogelesby) Pope. Jim was raised in Mountain Lakes, NJ and attended local schools. Jim attended M.I.T. and Columbia and received his degree in electrical engineering from UNH Durham. He met his childhood sweetheart and future wife Eleanor C. Pope at a popular vacation spot in the Poconos. They kept in touch throughout the years before they began dating and eventually marrying. They were married for 30 years before her death. While working overseas for the Department of Defense he met his second wife, Sheena (Manvel) Pope. Jim was blessed to meet and marry his third wife Marjorie (Coulson) Pope five years ago. Jim's hobbies included telecommunications, computers, electronics and emerging technologies. He was known by his family and friends for his political beliefs which he freely shared. Jim was a religious man and held his beliefs close to heart; he raised his children to appreciate good Christian values. He was a generous and kind man to those he knew, always trying to make others happy when he could. He is predeceased by his 1st and 2nd wives, and a brother, Edward O. Pope. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of five years, Marjorie (Coulson) Pope, of Thornton; eight children, Charlotte and husband Witold Palacz, of Somersworth, NH, Cyndi and husband Brian Beede, of Ashland, NH, James Pope and wife Sara, of Denver, CO, Clark Pope and wife Heather, also of Denver, Charles Pope and wife Laura, of Bloomington, IN, Stephanie Pope, of Thornton, Lia and husband Bill Jackson, of Roanoke, VA, and Regan and husband Wayne Johnson, Holland Patent, NY; seventeen grandchildren; Elena, Alexandra, David, Eleanor, Charles, Zoe, Sophie, Richie, Anna Grace, Liam, Katrina, Heidi, Shana, Andria, Adriana, and Dylan; Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and many friends in the area. Jim is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Philbrick of Wentworth and his brother Robert D. Pope of Somersworth.
