James Harold McCaughey, 80, of Margaret Way died suddenly November 1, 2010, at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia. Born in Des Moines, IO, on October 3, 1930, he was the son of James and Marjorie [Butterworth] McCaughey. At a young age, James moved to the Ridgewood, NJ and Glen Rock, NJ area and graduated from Ridgewood High School. He resided in Ramsey, NJ of thirty-eight years, and summered in the Lakes Region area for many years. He became a permanent resident of Gilford in 1999. James worked as an insurance broker and owned and operated the James McCaughey Agency, in Ramsey, NJ, for forty-two years, until his retirement in 1999. He was a communicant of St. Andre Bessett Parish, St. Joseph's Church, in Laconia. He also was a member of the finance board of the Lakes Region Community Wellness Center, and the lakes Region Camera club, both in Laconia. He was a US Air Force veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. James is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Gladys J. [Gargiule] McCaughey, of Gilford, sons, James R. McCaughey of Dumont, NJ, Anthony Amato of Manhattan, NY, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim is also survived by his friends, Joseph and Louise Gabriel, Armand and Barbara St. Pierre and many other friends and neighbors. Service:A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Andre Bessett Parish, St. Joseph's Church, Laconia, on Friday at 10am. The Rev. Matthew Mason will be the celebrant.Cemetery:Burial will be held at a later date in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
