James Clymer, Iii

August 20, 1948 — March 25, 2024

MEREDITH---James Harrison Clymer III, 75, affectionately known as, “Harry”, passed away on March 25, 2024, at his home in Meredith, NH with his children by his side.

Harry was born in Morristown, NJ in 1948 to James H. Clymer Jr, and Isabel Straub Clymer. His sister June followed two years later. Harry attended Chatham High School with his sister, along with their cousins that lived just a few blocks away.

Harry attended Lehigh University, studying Industrial Engineering. He later found a passion for working with computers. From 1983 to 2010, Harry was employed by PSNH in Manchester as a Computer Programmer. He retired in 2010, after the passing of his wife in 2009.

Harry met his wife Barbara, affectionately known as “Bunny”, on a blind date set up by both Barbara and Harry’s mothers who worked together in NYC. Harry and Bunny married in 1973. In 1979 they welcomed their son, Christopher, and then their daughter, Alison in 1984.

Harry had a very deep connection with his family’s annual vacation place on Lake Winnipesaukee; Geneva Point Center. At the age of five he began a 70-year-long annual tradition that later came to involve his own family, who now continue his tradition.

In 1983 he moved his family to NH to be closer to his beloved summer retreat. He never missed a year at Geneva Point Center, and neither has either of his children or his grandchildren. His passion for Geneva Point Center eventually led him to its board of directors, on which he remained until his death.

In 2018 he was overjoyed to meet his granddaughter, Cecilia. His grandson and name-sake James H. arrived in 2020. Harry never seemed happier than when he was surrounded by his family, and his love and dedication to his family was always on display.

Harry was an intellectual; always interested in learning a new skill from whatever he’d pick up – and then perfecting it. He was kind, gentle, and quiet. As well as understanding, Harry was always very helpful; always eager to lend a hand – especially if it meant being able to teach someone something new.

Harry was a man of many talents and hobbies. He was a talented pianist and wood-worker. During the summer months, you could find him wind surfing on Lake Wicwas. In winter, he would skate the perimeter of Wicwas until the snow fell, when conditions were then prime for skiing at Ragged Mountain. He loved a good game of trivia, and was very passionate about his NYT crossword puzzles.

Harry treated his family as though it was a commodity more precious than gold. His family will continue to follow in his footsteps; always keeping family close. If not close geographically, close in heart; as demonstrated by his sister June, who called weekly to stay in touch from her home in southern France.

Harry is survived by his son, Christopher; daughter, Alison; and his grandchildren, Cecilia Lee, and James Harrison; daughter-in-law, Julie; as well as his sister, June; brother-in-law, Gerard; and his niece Madeleine – who will all miss him, very, very much.
