James P Baker

September 27, 1952 — April 15, 2024

Meredith—James (Jim) P. Baker of Serenity Lane died on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord.

Jim was born on September 27, 1952, in Sherman, TX, the son of Kenneth and Ruth (Campbell) Baker. He grew up in Ashland, Massachusetts. He participated in Boy Scouts, high school sports, and his local church. As a teenager, he taught himself to play the guitar and was a regular performer at the Church’s Coffee House. Upon graduating high school, he was a member in several bands, eventually playing solo gigs to earn a living. He loved the sound of James Taylor among other artists, learning their songs and playing them for audiences.

Jim was passionate about many things, especially his family. He spent many years volunteering to coach basketball, baseball, softball, and t-ball with the Plymouth (NH) Parks and Recreation Department. He volunteered to umpire Little League games, eventually becoming a certified umpire for high school and Babe Ruth baseball.

When Jim wasn’t helping or watching youth sports, he was fishing on NH lakes. Many summer vacations were spent on the water. He loved teaching his children and others how to fish, an activity they continue to enjoy.

Jim held various positions in sales throughout his career. He owned and operated his own toy store, Childish Notions in Lincoln, NH before becoming a road salesman, connecting with many small businesses throughout New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. He knew all the beautiful places in Northern New England which he shared with his wife during leisurely drives; she called him her personal GPS.

Jim is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Buffington) Baker; his daughter, Laura (Baker) Espinola and her husband, Craig Espinola; his son Grant Baker and partner Dana Williams; granddaughter, Ayda Baker; and almost granddaughter, Mikayla Walker. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Leslie Baker.
