James Joseph Albert

July 26, 1931 — April 25, 2013

James J. Albert, 81, of Groton, NH, passed away after two and a half years of fighting leukemia on Thursday, April 25th, 2013 in his own home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Born and raised in Groton NH, James enlisted in the US army when he was 17 years old. He served for 9 years becoming a Jumpmaster in the 101st Airborne Division.

James later returned home and started his own logging business, where he truly embraced a passion for raising and working his own draft horses as well as becoming an avid fan of horse pulling.

A key member in the local community, James acted as the Town of Groton's Chief of Police, Selectman, Road Agent, and Town Moderator. Above all, he was known for his open door policy, being a friend to all, especially those who braved his brutally honest opinion, or those in need of a cup of coffee and a good laugh.

James will be remembered as a strong, caring, and passionate person with an immense zest for life and love for his family.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Bonnie Albert; four children, Rhonda Tracy, Tony and Scott Albert, and Darlene Paratore; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Adams and Lewis Albert, and sister, Eva White. He was predeceased by eight other siblings and one son, Jimmy Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH 03756 or to the Hebron Fire Department, Hebron, NH 03241.
