Herbert E. Martin, Jr. 71, of Laconia, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 1, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
 
 
 Born on May 5, 1942 in Laconia, he was the son of Herbert E.,(Sr.) and Gertrude M. (Howland) Martin. Herb was raised in Center Harbor, attending local schools, graduating from the Interlakes High School. He went on to further his education at the New England College, in Manchester, earning an Associate's Degree in Business.
 
 
 Herb was drafted in the United States Army and served with great courage in Vietnam, during the Vietnam War.
 
 
 Upon returning home from his service, he started his career as an accountant working for several area businesses before his employment with the Ambrose Bros. Construction Co., of Meredith, retiring in 2006 after 35 years with the company.
 
 
 Herb had many hobbies and interests. He loved the game of chess and attended many tournaments throughout the years; he also loved travelling, bus trips to Foxwoods Casino, sports (his favorite teams were the Red Sox and New England Patriots). Herb also enjoyed Candlepin Bowling in his younger years. Above all, Herb was a kind hearted man who was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
 
 
 He is lovingly survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Susan (Keranen) Martin, of Laconia; sons, Jeffrey Martin, of Meredith, Ryan Martin and his wife Kelly, of Concord; daughter, Jennifer Moquin, of Manchester; granddaughters, Jada Moquin and Sofia K. Martin; brother, Dennis Martin and his wife Jackie, of FL; cousin, Cathy Knell and her husband Bob, of Moultonborough; nieces, Michelle, of FL, and Terri Chance and her husband Bob, of Ctr. Harbor.
 
 
 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Herb's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
