Henry C Ide

Henry Clay Ide died July 11,2017 in Hospice care at his home in Moultonborough, NH after a courageous battle with oral cancer.

Henry was born April 10,1938 in Washington, D.C. to Virginia Royall Ide and Robert Ide. He spent his childhood in Arlington, VA and graduated from Washington Lee High School where he was in the Science Honor Society and on the varsity basketball and golf
teams. He was an outstanding basketball player and continued playing while in the Navy. Earning ROTC scholarships to Yale, Harvard and Tufts, he selected Tufts to pursue an engineering degree but graduated with a degree in philosophy.

Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Navy, earning the rank of Lt. Commander. He taught courses in Naval Weaponry at the University of Illinois and while there earned a Doctorate of Law. He continued to serve in the naval reserves in the J.A.G. corp. for many years. Pursuing his passion for the law, he practiced in the Hartford, CT area as an
attorney, Special Master and was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

An avid golfer, he was, at times, a member of: Hop Brook Country Club, Simsbury, CT; Wampanoag Country Club, West Hartford, CT; Ridgewood Golf Club, Moultonborough, NH; and Laconia Country Club, Laconia, NH. When not golfing, he enjoyed sailing his boat on Long Island Sound with family and friends from the Noank Village Boatyard, Noank, CT.

As a young boy, he spent his summers on Lake Winnipesaukee at Camp Toltec where he grew to love and cherish the Lakes Region. He had such fond memories of running up and down Red Hill that he and his wife purchased a home on the water looking at Red Hill. It became their permanent home after selling their home in Avon, CT.

He was deeply committed to land conservation and served on the Board of Directors of the Lakes Region Conservation Trust (LRCT). He also served as Vice President of the E.T. and H. K. Ide Company, a family business in Vermont.

For many years, he and his wife were "snowbirds", spending the winter months in the Venice, FL area where they enjoyed a large "family" of friends and golfing buddies.

He was predeceased by his parents, older brother, Alan and far too many dear friends and beloved pets. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sharon Hubbell Ide. His children from his first marriage: Alison Ide-Pech (John Pech), Canton, CT; Clay Ide (David Shaw), Palm Springs, CA; Jenna Ide (Dainis Kaulenas), Salem, MA; and stepdaughter from his present marriage Tamaryn Means Howard (Richard Howard), Fairfax, VA; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister Anne Crothers (Jim Crothers), Shelby, NC; mother-in-law Dorothy Lutz Hubbell, Venice, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many wonderful friends.

Henry will be greatly missed by many who knew, loved and respected him. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, kindness, and fairness.

There will be no calling hours. Burial arrangements will be determined at a later date.

Interment will be private in the family plot in St Johnsbury, VT.
