Helen Constance (Sargeant) Dahood (June 25, 1917-June 15, 2013), of Thornton, NH, died at Lakes Region General Hospital on June 22 after a brief illness.
Helen was a long-time resident of Laconia and had lived in Meriden, Connecticut for a number of years before returning to her native New Hampshire. She was a resident at Golden View Nursing Home
Helen was a Registered Nurse and was a well-respected member of the medical community over her long career which spanned more than 50 years. She was the Director of several nursing homes both in New Hampshire and Connecticut; prior to that she was a nursing supervisor at Concord Hospital, in Concord NH. She was a graduate of Margaret Pillsbury School of Nursing. In addition to a stellar career in the care of the sick and infirm, she rounded out her career as an Ombudsman with the State of New Hampshire, performing duties of inspecting nursing homes for patient care and fielding complaints about facilities in the mid-New Hampshire region.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Michael Dahood. She leaves behind a loving son, Richard Simpson Sargeant and a son in Law, Peter Roger Genovese, M. D., of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is survived by two sisters, Thelma Lawson, as well as Bennett Lawson of Thornton and Catherine Sylvestre of Plymouth. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Carol Meyers of Thornton, Barbara Watson of Campton; Robert Sargeant of Holderness; Peter Sylvestre of Lyman, Maine; Karen Natale of Alton; Christopher Sargeant of Jamaica Plain, MA and Leslie Beaudin of Amherst, MA.
Helen travelled extensively and she will be remembered for her sharp sense of humor as well as her love of crossword puzzles and ice cream.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Plymouth Senior Center, a vital resource for the elder community.
