Harold Eldred Whittenberger, 80, of Moultonborough, NH, passed away Wednesday evening, July 10, 2013 at UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born to the late Harold and Marie Whittenberger on August 5, 1932 in Casper, WY. As a young boy he moved from Wyoming, to Lynn, MA where he spent most of his childhood.
He is lovingly survived by his sister Eileen, his six children, Paula Fordin and her husband Scott, Julie Parolin and her husband John, Laurie Wetherell and her husband Neal, Lisa Mathews and her husband Michael, Susan Ayotte and her husband Dean, and Mark Whittenberger and his wife Tanya; eleven grandchildren, Alyssa, Michaela, Samuel, Claudia, John, Joanna, Jaclyn, Nicholas, Alexander, Erica and Amanda. Harold is also survived by his great granddaughter Brooke and 6 nieces and nephews. Harold's wife Joan preceded him in death.
Harold attended St. Mary's High School, in Lynn, MA before attending Boston College where he earned a degree in Business Management and was a proud member of ROTC. He also attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell where he earned an Electrical Engineering degree. Following graduation he spent several years on active duty in the Army and continued in the reserves as a Captain responsible for the NIKE sites in New England. He made his career at Raytheon Corporation where he was recognized as an inventor and key figure on multiple programs, with many awards to his name. After 35 years of service with Raytheon, Harold retired to the home he built and loved on Black Cat Island on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Harold loved to read, was an avid fan of Boston College sports, and loved spending time with his dog Meg, who he rescued from the Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue (MAGRR). Throughout his life his focus was on his family, always providing sound advice and guidance.
