MOULTONBOROUGH --- Gloria Ella (Racine) Avery of Moultonboro, NH and Orange City, FL passed away on Monday, December 30th, 2024, at the age of 97. Gloria was born the second of five children, December 22, 1927, in the town of Center Harbor of parents, Harry J. Racine and Josephine (McCormack) Racine. Gloria spent her young life with her family and attended school in Center Harbor and Meredith, NH. She worked for a time at the Meredith Diner and E. M. Heath Grocery store as well as her tireless work supporting the family businesses. She married her husband, Lauris E. Avery Sr., on July 7, 1946. In the early years of their marriage, they lived on a shoe-string budget and put all their resources into founding Avery’s Garage and Trucking Service, and later L. E. Avery Excavating, as well as other ventures on Moultonboro Neck Road in Moultonboro. They raised two sons, Lauris E. Avery, Jr. and Lyndon E. Avery. Gloria loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and also remained close to her siblings throughout her life.
In addition to her family, Gloria loved Lake Winnipesaukee and her North Country home in Clarksville, NH, where she enjoyed spending time outdoors, observing wildlife and tending her flower gardens. She kept apprised of local goings on and was an avid reader. She was hard working, strong willed and determined. She was fiercely loyal and protective of those she cared about. Gloria was very intelligent and had a memory like a steel trap. Gloria left her much loved New Hampshire and moved to the John Knox Village community in Orange City, FL in 2013.
Gloria is predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Lauris E. Avery, Sr., her brothers Francis Racine, Wendell "Woody" Racine, Gordon “Gordie” Racine, and several nephews and nieces. Gloria is survived by her sons, Lauris E. Avery, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Ashland, and Lyndon E. Avery and his wife Anne of Alton; grandchildren, Justin (Alyssa) Avery, Christopher Avery, Marina Avery, and Tyler (Cheyenne Noyes) Avery. Gloria leaves three great grandchildren, Camden, Hadley and Axton Avery. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Beverly (Racine) Felten, and many nephews and nieces.
A Funeral Mass and luncheon will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 40 Hidden Springs Rd., Alton, NH. The burial will be held at a later date at Middle Neck Cemetery in Moultonboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gloria’s name to the Salvation Army.
