Frederick Arthur Trevor

Frederick A."Ted" Trevor, Jr., 87, formerly of Moultonborough, passed away on December 6, 2016 at Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith, after a courageous battle with old age.
Ted was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 12, 1929 to Dr. Frederick A Trevor and Blanche Mosley Trevor. His parents had a summer home on Meredith Bay in New Hampshire.
Ted attended Melrose, Mass. schools until he became too much for his mother to handle and was shipped to Hebron Academy in Maine. Ted had an early interest in automobiles ever since he was run over by a car at the age of 3. He bought his first car when he was 14; his father made him take it back.
Ted was an interesting fellow, he had an early interest in aviation. In the early forties, he worked for Winnipesaukee Seaplanes at Weirs Beach, NH as a dockhand and parachutist entertaining the throngs of summer tourists. He earned his private pilot seaplane rating there when he was 16. He was an avid race car driver and was very successful racing at the Gilford Bowl in NH.
Ted married Marion Ruth Horne in Meredith, NH on June 30, 1951 and started his family. Ted attended Wesleyan University in Massachusetts and then apprenticed as a Tool and Die Maker at the General Electric Aircraft Engine factory in Lynn, Mass.
Ted and Marion moved to Costa Mesa, California in 1954 where he worked for the Cadillac Gauge Co., with them he fabricated the first Polaris Missile guidance system. He enjoyed SCUBA diving for abalone off Catalina Island and the coast of Mexico, water skiing in the Newport Beach Back Bay and skydiving at Elsinore before again becoming involved with high performance automobiles. He created Crown Manufacturing Co. to engineer and fabricate high performance autocross and dune buggy components and won scores of trophies with his cars and driving including two years straight Southern California Sports Car Club championships, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and other Championship Race Cars. He was very active in promoting the National Off Road Racing Association series of races as well as Corvair and Volkswagen performance improvements.
Ted and Marion sold the business in 1974. Ted had rekindled his interest in aviation and rebuilt an antique biplane which also won numerous trophies for workmanship and restoration. They moved back to New Hampshire when he purchased Ted's Amoco on the corner of Routes 3 and 25 and opened Meredith Aviation, a seaplane base offering scenic flights of the beautiful lakes region.
Ted developed several properties in the area including property which is now the Meadowbrook Entertainment facility in Gilford, the former PI building which is now The Inn at Bay Point and Skyland Park adjacent to the Moultonborough Airport.
Ted was an enthusiastic inventor, creating many items of unique utility. These included the famous Polar Bear Claws, the water saving Whizz-Away and numerous automotive and aircraft mechanical and performance based inventions utilizing his top machinists skills.
Ted was active in many clubs and associations over the years. These include but are not limited to Meredith Rotary Club, Life Time member NRA, Honorary lifetime membership to the Corvair Society of America as well as the Central NH Corvair Association, a member of the local Over The Hill Gang, the "444" Jalopy Club, and he was a Good Fellow with the Quiet Birdmen.
Ted was predeceased by his son Steven P. Trevor in 1992 and his wife Marion also in 1992.
Ted leaves three other sons, Alan A. Trevor and Ann Elterman Trevor, Keith F. Trevor and Jaqueline Corriea Trevor, Howard T. Trevor and Genevieve Kelliher and daughter Jeri T. King and Eric King. He is survived by his sister Joyce Trevor, his brother Robert Trevor and his wife Janet Baker Trevor. He also leaves seven grandchildren, many extended family members and friends.
Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, Routes #3 and #104, Meredith, on Saturday, Dec. 10th, from 2pm to 4pm. A time for Family Reflection will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 3:30pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
