Frederick W. Hughes, 85, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after a brief struggle with cancer. He was a resident at Mae's Place, in Bristol.
Fred was born on January 24, 1928, in Woonsocket, RI, the son of Frederick W. and Vera (Kelly) Hughes, Sr. He served in the Navy during WWII. After returning home, Fred spent most of his life in Massachusetts as an electrician at Nellmore's. He moved to New Hampshire in 1994.
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and he enjoyed gardening. Fred was a great man who was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his Irish stubbornness; however, nothing came before the one's he loved. He will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Fred is survived by his four children, Joel, James, Thomas and Laurie Hughes; five grandchildren, Crystal, Stacey, Miranda, Jake and Brianna; one great-grandson, Jace, and one brother, Lawrence Hughes, of Hopedale, MA.
The Hughes family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents at Mae's Place for all the compassionate care and love that Fred received while staying there; they truly made it his home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
