Frederick J. Crory, Jr

Frederick James Crory, Jr, 87, of Range Road, died September 26, 2009, at Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith.     Born in Boston on February 19, 1922, he was the son of Frederick J. Sr, and Dorothy [Watson] Crory.      Fred grew up in Detroit Michigan and moved to Packers Falls, NH at the age of sixteen.  He graduated from Dover High School and was Captain of the high school hockey team and a star pitcher on the baseball team.  He was fondly known as "the Rube" for his red hair.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire, class of 1946 and then his Masters degree from the University of Maine in Orono.  He was a summer resident of Sandwich and a winter resident of St. Augustine, FL.     Fred's career in education included nine years in South Portland, Maine, professorship at Aroostick College, in Presque Isle, ME and twenty-two years in administration at Stony Brook School, in Stratford, CT.  He retired in 1981.     He took great pride in being a fifty year member of the Hiram Lodge of Mason in South Portland, ME and a forty year member of the Rotary International Club, most recently in Meredith and St. Augustine, FL.  He was also a member of the Federated Church of Sandwich.  He was an avid golfer and was a member of Waukewan Golf Club and St. Augustine Shores Golf Association.     Fred never gave up his love for sports.  In the early 1940's, he played triple A baseball in the upper New York state and Pennsylvania area, coached and umpired baseball from American Legion teams to little league, and refereed ice hockey and basketball.  He was an avid Red Wings hockey fan.     He enjoyed boating on the Long Island Sound and Squam Lake, Ham Radio, and riding his Enduro motorcycle on the back roads of Sandwich.     Fred was predeceased by his brother, Robert.     Fred is survived by his wife of almost sixty-one years, Virginia [Atwood} Crory, of Sandwich, children, James Atwood Crory of Ft. Pierce, FL, Lynne Suzanne Pert and her husband Ted, of Stratford, CT, Fred James Crory III, of Sandwich, David Parker Crory and fiancé Cindy Crowell of Sandwich, grandchildren, David Seth Pert and his wife Jessie of Old Town, ME, Joshua Thomas and Teddy Pert, both of Stratford, CT, sister Maxine Emma Glenday of Sandwich, many nieces and nephews.Memorials:Memorial contributions may be made to the Federated Church of Sandwich or the Sandwich Historical Society, Center Sandwich, NH. 03227. Service:A Memorial Service will be held in the Federated Church of Sandwich, Methodist Meeting House on Friday, October 9th at 4pm.  The Rev. David Morgan, pastor, will officiate.  A Celebration of his Life will follow at the Benz Center on Heard Road, Center Sandwich.  Cemetery:Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Rural Cemetery, Sandwich.
