Franz Dubach, 70, of Fondue Ave. died at his home on October 7, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Luthern Switzerland on February 27, 1944, he was the son of Kaspar and Paula (Kurmann) Dubach. He grew up on a farm in Switzerland with four brothers and seven sisters.
Franz, at the age of 23, moved to Montreal and then to Vermont. He has been a resident of Thornton since 1975. He married Ruth Egli, who had followed him from Switzerland, and he became a father to Clifford.
Franz worked as a chef in the Swiss Pot Restaurant in Stowe, VT and in 1975; he bought Your Place Restaurant and turned it into the famous William Tell, in Thornton. Franz operated the William Tell from 1975 to 1983 and then from 1990 to until his retirement in 2006.
Franz was a member and past board member from 1978 to 1984 of the Waterville Valley Chamber of Commerce and a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish, in Plymouth.
Franz was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Egli) Dubach, his brothers, Kaspar, Toni, and Haus, his sisters, Marie, Theres and Margrith.
Franz is survived by his wife, Marie Theres (Wey) Dubach, his son, Clifford Dubach, his brother, Sepp Dubach and his wife Theres, of Switzerland, his sisters, Rosa Hanslin of New London, NH, Martha Rogger, Anna Nussli, and Paula Wechsler, all of Switzerland, many nieces and nephews.
