Francis Edward O'Donnell

Francis "Sonny" E. O'Donnell, 87, Formerly of North Sandwich and Holderness, NH, died peacefully on May 17, 2016, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston, MA.

Born in Plymouth, NH, on August 1, 1928, he was the son of Hubert and Annetta (Hutchins) O'Donnell.

Sonny grew up in Plymouth and Holderness and graduated from Plymouth High School. After high school, Sonny earned his private pilot's license and was very active in the local Civil Air Patrol. He resided in Holderness for many years, before moving to North Sandwich, NH, where he resided for twenty-eight years. He had just recently moved to West Newbury, MA.

Sonny operated an Auto Body Shop, n Route 175, in Holderness, before joining the NH State Police, in 1962. He worked several years as a trooper and then transferred to Motor Vehicle law enforcement. He ended his state career as Supervisor of Navigation for NH Marine Patrol.

During Sonny's time in law enforcement, he developed an interest in old clocks. During his retirement, Sonny becamea fulltime antique clock repairman. His family remembers a house full of clocks and at midnight and noontime the chiming would ring through the house for about seven minutes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, beekeeping, and reading about military history.

Sonny's was predeceased by his first wife, Concetta "Connie" O'Donnell, who died in 1987.

Sonny is survived by his wife Barbara Fisher O'Donnell of North Sandwich, three sons, Michael O'Donnell and his wife Linda, James O'Donnell and his partner Steve Patch, Thomas O'Donnell and his wife Luz, his three step children, Kathy LeBlanc and her husband David, Peggy Manter and her husband Dale, Michael Fisher and his wife Diana, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, with one on the way, his sister Gertrude Haley, several nieces and nephews, his former daughter-in-law, Cathy O'Donnell.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Holy Trinity Parish, St. Matthews Church, at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth, NH.
