Ethel Elizabeth Whelpley

Ethel Elizabeth Whelpley, 79, of Heritage Terrace, died peacefully on March 4, 2014, at Lakes Region General Hospital, in Laconia.

Born in Boston, MA on April 20, 1934, she was the daughter of Ernest A. and Edna Marion (Scott) Emerson. Ethel grew up in the Arlington, MA area and graduated from Arlington schools. She resided in Dorchester, MA for many years. She married John A. Whelpley Sr., in August of 1952 and they moved to New Hampshire in 1953. She resided in Franklin for many years before moving to Belmont.

Ethel was an advanced Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for nursing homes and two hospitals over a period of time. She also did home health care for families. She loved to knit and make Afghans for her family, especially for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed NASCAR and reading.

Ethel was predeceased by her husband, John A. Whelpley, Sr., in October, 1993, her son William Edward Whelpley, in October, 2011, and daughter Barbara Jean Whelpley, in August, 1971.

She is survived by her son, John A. Whelpley Jr. and his wife Dixie; daughters, Mary Lou Herbert and her husband Ron, Carol Ann Magee and her husband William; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; sister, Carol Ann Pankhurst of Amherst, NY; many nieces and nephews.
