Ernest Richard Saunders

Ernest ?Ernie? Richard Saunders, 93, of Campton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, in Tilton.
Born in Campton on September 24, 1918, he was the son of John and Isabel Saunders. Ernest was raised in Campton and graduated from the Plymouth Regional High School. He also resided in the Randolph and Westford, MA areas. After his retirement, he and his wife Evelyn moved to Largo, FL, where they resided together for many years.
Ernest proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. Following his return from his service, he was a very involved Ham Radio Operator with the call letters W1QWB. He worked for many years as an Electronics Lab Technician for General Radio in Concord, MA. Ernest was very active in the Randolph Baptist Church, of Randolph, MA; and with his wife Evelyn, they both served as youth directors for the United Methodist Church, in Graniteville, MA.
Ernest was well known as a square dance enthusiast while living in Westford, and he spent a lot of time square dance calling after he and Evelyn moved to Largo, FL. Ernest spent his final years as a resident of the NH Veteran?s Home where he was well cared for and well respected.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Lee Fernie and husband Dennis, of Raymond, NH; grandson, Jason Beckman, also of Raymond; granddaughter, Heather Glover, of Plano, TX; three great grandchildren, Ashley Ballantini and C.J. Glover, both of Plano, TX, and Tiffany Leggett; two sisters, Joyce Mayhew, of Campton, NH and Shirley Downey, of Bellingham, MA; and many nieces and nephews.Memorials:In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernie?s memory to the Campton Congregational Church, 495 Route 175, Campton, NH 03223.Service:A funeral service will be held in the Campton Congregational Church, RTE 175, Campton, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Russell Petrie, pastor, will officiate.Cemetery:Interment will follow the service in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen at 2:30pm.
