Ernest E Davis

Ernest Eugene Davis Jr., 79, died on August 15, 2016 at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, N.H.

Born in Moultonborough, N.H. on September 15, 1936, He was the son of Ernest E. Davis and Bertha (Elfredo) Welch.

Ernest attended elementary school in Moultonborough, graduated from Quimby Academy in Sandwich in1954 and attended Brewster Academy for one year.

Ernest enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and was discharged in 1961. He was able to enjoy visiting 7 different countries in Europe before returning home. He was an active member of the NH National Guard for 25 years.

Ernest worked for many years for Rita Bishop and Mary McIntosh in Tuftonboro, NH, also working for many families and businesses as ground keeper. He worked for Persons Farm in Moultonborough for 15 years and volunteered delivering flowers for Floral Creations.

Ernest was a member of the Moultonborough Grange for 30 years, serving as Master for 14 years. He then served 6 years in the Pomona Grange. Ernest enjoyed cooking, gardening, making beautiful hand work which he entered at the Sandwich Fair for many years, often taking first place.

Ernest was also an active member of the Quimby Academy Alumni Association.

Ernest served on the Moultonborough Historical Society for many years, several years as President.

The greatest gift Ernest gave to the Town of Moultonborough was serving for 23 years on the Board of Selectman, many of them as Chairman of the Board, the longest amount of years a Selectman has served. Ernest also served on the planning board for 26 years.

Ernest was grateful for his good friends Mardee Boone, Arlie Hatch, Dan Rowen, Sarah Richardson and her family, Debbie Peaslee, Jerry King. Visiting Nurse Service, Moultonborough/Sandwich Meals on Wheels and Comfort Keepers and the wonderful members of the Moultonborough Volunteer Fire
Department and EMT's all of whom allowed him to stay in his own home for so long.

He leaves one brother, Elmer G. Davis of Gilford, currently residing at Geneses in Laconia, and one first cousin Lucile Moore of Exeter, NH. and many other cousins.
