Ellen Frothingham Dunnell Bennett, age 80, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at her home "Overlook Farm" in Center Harbor, NH after a battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Ellen Frothingham of Boston and William Wanton Dunnell, Jr. of Newport, RI. Born in Boston, she spent her early years in Boston and in Wayland, MA. She was a 1948 graduate of the Winsor School and a 1952 graduate of Vassar College. She was a former President of the Boston Center for Blind Children. She lived for years in Weston, MA and for the last sixteen years in Center Harbor She was a horse lover and was for many years a leading member of the Weston, MA 4H Club and Weston Forest and Trail. She also was a dog lover and had ten dogs in her lifetime. She was an avid gardener and a President and trustee of many garden clubs and a strong supporter of the Kirkwood Gardens of the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and a Trustee Emerita of the Squam Lakes Conservation Society. She spent summer months on her family island, Great Island, in Squam Lake.She was greatly admired by her family and many friends for her kindness, gentleness, love of family, strong religious faith and love of nature and animals.Memorials:Donations in her name may be made to the Squam Lakes Conservation Society, P.O. Box 696, Holderness NH 03245Service:An Angelican Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 2:30PM in the Holderness Community Church, in Holderness, NH with a reception to follow in the undercroft after the service. Burial will be private. A memorial service is planned for early August on Church Island in Squam Lake.
