Elizabeth Jane (Atkinson) Rhodes, 93, passed away on July 30 in Franklin, New Hampshire following a long illness.
She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Shultz and Susan Rhodes. She is also survived by her son-in-law Robert Shultz, her four grandchildren Martha McBride, Robert Shultz, Timothy Shultz, Peter Shultz and his wife Elissa, five great grandchildren Keane and his wife Cortney McBride, Gavin, Colin, Mason and Leah Shultz, as well as nieces and nephews of many generations. She is predeceased by her husband Robert W. Rhodes and her sister Lillian Gene McNulty.
Betty (as she was known) graduated from the University of Massachusetts and served as a dietitian at Lakes Region Medical Center in the early 1950's. She went on to work for DuPont Labs in Wilmington, Delaware and upon returning to New Hampshire she taught for several years at the Quimby High School in Sandwich, New Hampshire. She spent many years teaching at the Laconia State School.
Upon retiring from the State School, she missed working with children and became a special education assistant at the Pleasant Street School in Laconia for many years. A private burial with close friends and family followed by a celebration of her life will be held at her home at 44 Meredith Center Road on August 27th.
