Douglas Arnold Sanborn, 65, of Groton Hollow Road, died January 17, 2014, at his home, after a brief illness.
Born in Rumney on June 6, 1948, Doug was the son of the late Roger and Mary (Murdough) Sanborn.
Doug was a life-long resident of Rumney and graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1966. He also attended New Hampshire Technical Institute.
After high school, Doug enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
Doug served the town of Rumney as the Post Master for twenty-nine years, retiring in 2003. He also worked as a part-time bus driver for Robertson Transit.
Doug was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Veterans of Foreign War Post, Plymouth and the American Legion Post, in Rumney.
Doug loved to hunt, fish, and spend time outdoors. He visited the Allagash territory in Maine five times and in his early years, loved to race cars at local tracks.
Doug is survived by his wife, Gail E. (Thompson) Sanborn of Rumney, daughters, Christie A. Burbank and her husband Jeffrey of Canterbury, NH, Stacy L. Palmer and her husband William of Loudon, NH, Chelsea F. Sanborn of Plaistow, NH, Sabrina Morton and her husband Frederick JR, of Ashland, five grandchildren, Allivia, Michael, Laurynn, Madison, and Cole, his mother, Mary (Murdough) Sanborn of Rumney, brother, Greg Sanborn and sister, Sandra Potrais, both of Rumney, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St, Plymouth, on Tuesday, Jan. 21st 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial in the Holy Trinity Parish St. Matthews Church, School St. Plymouth, will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 22nd at 11am. The Rev. Leo LeBlanc, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be held at the later date in the Highland Cemetery, Rumney.
