Dorothy Jewell Morris was born on Feb. 17, 1915 in Waterville, Maine. She passed away on December 19 at Coves Edge in Damariscotta, Maine. She was the daughter of Marie Bellows Jewell and Eugene Jewell. She trained as a nurse at Eastern Maine General in Bangor, married Thomas L. Morris in 1939 and settled in Plymouth, N.H. where she was an RN in the Plymouth hospitals for over 25 years. Later in her career, Dorothy was a school nurse and also worked administering the first Salk vaccine. She enjoyed attending nurses meetings, took painting classes with Robert Erickson, and did ceramic jewelry with one of her friends, Jean Chapman...and created a company they called Cha-Mor!! Dorothy was also an avid bird watcher, something that she enjoyed with her husband and two children, Thomas L. Morris, Jr. (deceased 1989) and Mary M. Devenney of Jefferson, Maine. They also loved to fish on Spec Pond and shared many a fun family trip to the pond. She also enjoyed star gazing, especially at Old Orchard Beach, where the family took summer vacations. Later, the couple took their granddaughters to OOB and those two girls now love the ocean, as well.In the neighborhood, Dorothy was known for taking in stray or wounded animals that children brought to her door. With the help of her son, Tommy, they were usually returned to the wild. On occasion however, some of the critters stayed and became pets....crows in particular come to mind. She also had somewhat of a reputation for dressing up at Halloween.....a holiday she truly loved.Dorothy is survived by her brother, Alfred Jewell of Burlington, VT.. her daughter, Mary M. Devenney and son-in-law Joseph J. Devenney, both of Jefferson, Maine and has two grand children, Angela and Nina Devenney, both reside in South Portland, MaineMemorials:In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors without Borders.
