Dorothy G. Helgerson

Dorothy G. Helgerson, 87, of Thornton, NH. died November 21, 2016, at the Belknap County Nursing Home, in Laconia, after a period of failing health.

Born in Pawtuxet, RI. on September 11, 1929, she was the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Remington) Meiggs.

Dorothy grew in Pawtuxet and graduated from Warwick High School, with honors, class of 1947. She resided in Swansea, MA. for many years and has been a resident of Thornton for past thirty years.

Dorothy worked for about ten years as a school bus driver for the Albert Wood Transportation Company, in Swansea. She also had worked as an administrative secretary for the Olin-Hunt Chemical Company in Massachusetts.

Dorothy was a member of the Rumney Baptist Church, in Rumney. Dorothy was a member for many years the Baker River Valley Snowmobile Club and spent a lot of time snowmobiling and grooming trails with her husband Paul.

Dorothy and her husband Paul where members of the Mobile Missionary Assistants Program and traveled the country helping Christian boys and girl camps build and repair their buildings and grounds.

Dorothy loved the outdoors, hunt, fish, snowmobile and ride her motorcycle. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and always keeping a tin of cookies on hand for any visitors.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Paul E. Helgerson, who died in December of 2006.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Steven P. Helgerson and his wife Janet of Sunderland, MA, Sandra D. Helgerson-Turner of Cranston, RI, Peter J. Helgerson and his wife Connie, James D. Helgerson and his wife Lyndell, of Franklin, MA, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

A fellowship gathering will be held at the Rumney Baptist Church, 375 Main St. Rumney, NH, on Saturday, Nov. 26th, from 12:30 to 2:00pm. A funeral service will follow in the church at 2pm. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Thornton, NH.
