BRISTOL --- With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow for the wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend we loved, we announce the passing of Doris Ann (Cocchiaro) Dumond, age 75, of Bristol New Hampshire. Doris passed away on July 17, 2026, after having seen and spoken with and surrounded by family and loved ones in a brief stay at Concord Hospital after a life-long disabling illness.

Born on February 11, 1951, Doris was the daughter of Alexander and Angela (Macaione) Cocchiaro, who grew up in a raucous, loving Sicilian extended family on both sides, after being infused with the dedication to service and pride in her dad and uncles saving freedom in World War II and returning to build a life in the United States. She has an associate's degree from Northern Essex Community College, a Bachelor of Science ir Criminal Justice Summa Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where she also received a Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and 2 graduate certificates in 2001. Her 50 year professional career including serving abused children, persons with mental illness and substance abuse issues, rape and sexual assault victims, homeless individuals and families, troubled adolescents and adult learners at Baldpate Hospital Health Care, Lazarus House, Harbor Homes, Alvirne High School and Franklin Pierce College from 1975 through 1996, then joining with her husband in researching and writing about prisoner sexual violence and advancing the Prison Rape Elimination Act, coauthoring more than 15 peer reviewed articles and book chapters, and having served as a Governor's Appointee for 25 years to the NH Department of Corrections Citizens Advisory Board for the NH State Prison-Concord.

However, she considered the life mission and greatest achievement which gave her endless joy to be the strengthening and raising her family, caring for her husband Bob, her children Amy, Matthew, Claire, then great nephew David and great niece Sarah, and finally her greatest joys, grandchildren Lex, Hadlie and Jude, whom she loved dearly and was extremely proud of. She was a loyal and passionate friend who enjoyed cooking, having family gatherings, traveling and going on vacations, visiting friends, going on the boat on Newfound Lake and enjoying spirited debate, singing and listening to music and the beauty of nature.

Though she had 2 forms of Muscular Dystrophy which ultimately confined her to a wheelchair for over 10 years, she never led this be an impediment to her intelligence, creativity and caretaking to her husband and family and always took the opportunity to embrace life to the fullest.

Doris was known for her humor, her spunky sassiness, her quick wit and intelligence, her huge heart and generosity, and the wide range of interests and talents (art, painting, pottery, ceramics, cooking, sewing, doll making, gardening, jewelry, writing fiction and nonfiction). Many family and friends are recipients of her artistic creations which they cherish and continue to enjoy and enjoyed her culinary delights often asking for recipes!

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Dumond; her three children and their families, Amy Dumond, Matthew and his wife Lucie Dumond and their children Lex and Jude, Claire Dumond-Sullivan and her husband Justin Sullivan, and Claire's daughter, Hadlie Marcoux, her sisters Joanne Cocchiaro and her children, Lisa Cocchiaro-Ciarcia and her husband and children, Lynne Cocchiaro-Coryea and her husband and children. She also leaves behind a treasure trove of cousins and life-long friends who have become family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved her.

Family and friends are invited to an hour of visitation on Saturday, August 08, 2026, from 9am to 10am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 2 West Shore Road, Bristol, NH.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated following the visitation, also at the church. A mercy meal will immediately follow at the adjacent Marian Center there. Burial will be conducted privately with the family at a later time.
