CENTER SANDWICH---Donna S. Johnson, 90, passed away on Monday December 18, 2017 at Wolfeboro Bay Center, Wolfeboro, NH, after a brief illness. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Donna was born on May 7, 1927 in Tarrytown, NY, the daughter of Harry H. and Margaret G. (Greeley) Spencer.
Donna grew up in Springfield, NJ attending a regional high school in Springfield, NJ. She attended Bucknell University, majoring in economics and math. After college she worked in New York City at Equitable Life Assurance Society writing proposals. On May 12, 1956 she married the love of her life, Walter C. Johnson, in the historic Presbyterian Church in Springfield, NJ. After they were married, they moved to Waltham, MA, then in 1957 to Morris Plains, NJ and in 1972 they moved to Martinsville, NJ before retiring to Center Sandwich, NH in 1987.
Donna enjoyed being an active member in the church and in the choir, Ladies Aid Society of the church, Womens' Club, Bearcamp Valley Garden Club, and the Over the Hill Hikers. She loved gardening and was also the chairman of the flowers at Sandwich Fair and on the flower committee. She loved spending time with her family, playing bridge, doing various puzzles, and taking pictures. Family was always a huge part of her life, especially her children and grandchildren. Donna and Walter traveled extensively throughout the world, and everywhere they went, they made new friends. Even after moving to New Hampshire, she maintained close contact with her friends from New Jersey.
Donna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Walter C. Johnson of Center Sandwich, her sons; Russell S. Johnson and his wife Leslie of Sandwich, NH; Charles E. Johnson and his wife Jody of Ipswich, MA; and her daughter Margaret Van Sickle and her husband Randall of Chatham, MA; her grandchildren: Jeremiah and Jacob Johnson of Bend, OR, Zachary Johnson of Sandwich, NH, Hunter Johnson of Fort Lewis, WA; David and Owen Van Sickle of Chatham, MA; and Spencer and Annika Johnson of Ipswich, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, and her brother Harry G. Spencer, of Bandon, OR.
