Donald "Billy" William Amos, 78, of School Street, Woodstock, passed away suddenly at his home Monday, February 10, 2020, with his wife and family at his side.
Born in Keene, NH on August 6, 1941, he was the son of the late Donald and Eunice (Greenwood) Amos. Billy was raised in the Lincoln-Woodstock area. He attended Lincoln Elementary and High School where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He was a graduate of the Class of 1960. Billy went on to marry his high school sweetheart Maxine Archambault on August 5, 1961 and started their family shortly thereafter.
Bill raised his family in Woodstock and was a member of the Woodstock Fire Department and served on the Lincoln Ambulance Service.
In Billy's younger years he was employed at Cannon Mountain Tramway and Franconia Paper Mill. After the closing of the Paper Mill, Billy worked at Burndy's and spent several years in building trades. Billy also worked for many years as a home inspector for the Tri County Community Action Program. Before Billy fully retired, he worked at Loon Mountain and Lincoln Station.
Billy did not lack life...he actually enjoyed it to the fullest. Billy was widely known in the community for playing guitar in a band for many years with Wayne Tetley, Ronnie Osgood, and Gary Deachman. In later years Billy enjoyed playing guitar with his son in-law, Jesse, and close friends. His closest friend being the late Jack Timbury. Together the two shared many drinks and many laughs all while doing all the things they loved, including making maple syrup, planning parties, and picking and grinning with Jack on the banjo. Billy was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed bowling for the Burndy Team as well as playing softball for the Town Team. Billy loved the outdoors he was an avid hunter and fisherman, this he inherited from his Dad. However, Billy's true enjoyment was his family. He loved attending family gatherings, from trips to York Beach to camping. Billy also loved supporting his kids and grandkids in all their activities. Whether it was a choral concert or sports game, Billy was front and center cheering them on.
While he is the last of the Amos name, he is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Maxine (Archambault) Amos of Woodstock, NH; daughter Karen Havlock and her husband Jesse of Thornton, NH; daughter Kerri Burhoe and husband Robert of Campton, NH; and his youngest daughter Judy-Lynn Welch and husband Michael of Woodstock, NH. He was proudly known as "Puppy" or "Pup" to his beloved 6 granddaughters, 2 great granddaughters, and 1 great grandson: Allison, Laurie, Katelyn, Samantha, Dakema, Delana, Maxine, Alexa, and Darrien.
A funeral Service will be held in the Pemi Valley Church, 1091 Daniel Webster HWY, Woodstock on Saturday, Feb. 15th at 11am. The Rev. Dean Roth and Rev. Marcus Corey will officiate. Spring burial will be held on May 14th at 11am, in the Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln.
