Dennis L. Bacon

December 11, 1942 — October 21, 2025

Keene, NH

KEENE --- Dennis Bacon was born December 11, 1942, in Harlowton, MT and passed away October 21, 2025, in Keene, NH. Dennis was the second oldest born to Lynn and Ruth (Welch) Bacon into a family that would become 9. He began his working career at a young age of 12 at the Beck Ranch near Deer Lodge, MT.

He graduated from Deer Lodge High School in 1961 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He had hoped to fly helicopters, but sadly his hearing prevented him from flying and he became a HC 34 helicopter mechanic instead. He served in the Vietnam war and was a proud veteran. He left the Marine Corp in August of 1967. He loved being a Marine. If he wasn’t wearing his cowboy hat he was wearing his USMC veteran hat. He would often be thanked by strangers for his service, to which he would always reply “It was my pleasure”.

He met his incredible wife Mirion (Martz) at an A&W stand, and they were married shortly after in April of 1965. They had 3 children, Devin, Bruce and Whitney.

Dennis went to school on the GI bill to become a Fish and Game Warden and was 1 paper shy of his Master’s degree from Montana State College in Bozeman, Montana.

Dennis was a man of multiple talents and a hard worker no matter what he did. He was a logger (where he broke his neck and back), a long-haul trucker, and business owner. He started his own trucking company called Sky Country Inc. He decided to trade that in 1989 and return to his ranching roots. He purchased a cattle ranch in Big Timber, MT. He was also a mean cribbage and pinochle player. He taught himself to play the guitar, even if it was only one song, Riders in the Sky. He was also a talented artist, drawing his own logo for his trucking company, and building his houses. His true passion however was flying. He studied and got his private pilot's license in his 40’s. He loved to be able to pick up his brothers and their families to go hunting and flying his own family around the country. In 2002, just before his wife died, they sold the ranch. He continued to stay busy by traveling and competing in cutting horse competitions. He enjoyed making new friends and of course the awards were an added bonus.

His work didn’t stop there as he continued hauling oil from North Dakota and his last paying job was hauling beets out of Billings, MT.

His biggest achievements were his children and grandchildren, whom he loved and often boasted about.

Dennis was funny, quick witted and would often say what most were thinking but wouldn’t say. It led to some enemies, but for those closest to him, we knew he’d always have our back. He never said no to a homemade baked good or maple frosted donut.

He is missed and will be forever handsome with those blue eyes and charm.

He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Mirion (Martz) Bacon, his sons Bruce and Devin Bacon, oldest brother Donald Bacon and brother in laws Keith Harris and Harry Benjamin. He leaves his legacy behind with his daughter, Whitney Bacon of Holderness, NH and his granddaughters Lena and Isla Fish. Surviving siblings, Karen Cooper (Dennis) Dwight (Sandra), Kathy Harris, Kim Hoskins (Mike), David (Gail), Dean and Kristi Adams (Rob).
