MEREDITH, DEAN G. MASON--(59) passed away suddenly at home on July 20, 2016.
Born on December 2, 1956 in Ithica, New York the son of the late William H. Mason and Kathleen (Gregory) Mason. Dean's family located to New Hampshire and eventually to Meredith in 1973 where Dean fell in love the geography, history and people of the lakes Region.
Dean will be remembered for his thoughtful, kind and caring nature. He worked hard and gave generously. He loved all living creatures, especially in the wild where he spent much time observing and photographing
Many will remember Dean for his entertaining and comedic propensity for playing his harmonica for the residents at Golden View Nursing Home, riding his 6-foot unicycle in Meredith Parades and during motorcycle week, and for telling a quick-witted joke that never failed to surprise and provoke laughter.
Dean's mechanical abilities were second to none. He loved to tinker and was a natural born problem solver. His talent on the lake is renowned and will be missed. Many will recall his meticulous diving and salvage operations, which included recovering such vehicles as aircrafts and logging trucks fallen through the ice. He loved working with granite and leaves a legacy of beautiful breakwater jetties and retainments. Island residents will miss his landing craft services that provided a safe, reliable and much needed source of transport. Dean was especially proud of the time and work he volunteered for the Leavitt Park and Indian island projects.
Always driving a different vehicle, Dean could be seen in his Old '36 or his convertible Bimmer or his veggie oil-powered military Hummer... the list goes on. If you sat behind his Hummer in traffic, you were sure to develop a craving for McNuggets.
