David was born to the late Barbara (Poole) and John Edgar Matheny on August 3rd, 1946, in South Weymouth, MA. He was married in 1980 to the love of his life, Marjorie (Luxem) Matheny.
Mr. Matheny’s life passion was carpentry. He designed and built furniture, including a China hutch, hope chest, bookshelves, and a grandfather clock. He refinished homes, designed and built his own home in Ossipee, and assisted his daughters in the rehab of their homes. David was also an outdoorsman, which probably was the result of his childhood on Newfound Lake where he had his fondest memories, spending summers at his grandparent’s home where he could fish to his heart’s content. Later in life he loved target shooting and watching the deer outside his home. A lover of music, particularly Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the Blues. He loved his motorcycle, rides to upstate New York and rides with family and friends. He was also very passionate about cars. He loved attending car shows and would go to every hot rod night that he could, he even built a kit car. Above all, David was a family man. He was a loving and thoughtful father. For one of his daughter’s birthdays, he arranged for an “evening with dad” complete with a dinner out and a spin on the dance floor. David and Marjorie took both daughters to Disney and more than one camping trip. David was an empathetic, thoughtful and loving husband and father and he was just the kindest person you could ever meet who would have given you the shirt off of his back if he thought you needed it.
David is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie, his daughters Lalena Matheny and her partner Kevin Grabowski, and Jennifer Matheny, his grandchildren Brian Mandeville and his wife Jenna DeChristopher, Melissa Devine, Ashley Scanlan and her fiancé Josh, his great grandson Noah Mandeville, his brother Stephen C.
