Daniel August Berg, 93, a lifelong resident of Plymouth passed away peacefully in his sleep on 21 September 2018, he was surrounded by his entire immediate family.
Born in Campton on 25 April, 1925 he was one of four children born to Augustus W. Berg and Sadie (McLaughlin) Berg.
Dan graduated from Plymouth Class of '43 and enlisted in the Army in July, 1943 and was attached to Company "L", 38th Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division and participated in multiple campaigns during WWII to include Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. His personal decorations include the Silver Star for heroism and two Purple Hearts for wounds received in combat.
Dan was a proud, lifelong member of American Legion Post #66 and served as the Commander for many years. He was also a member of the local VFW. Dan served as the Parade Marshall for Plymouth for over 40 years and organized every Memorial Day and Veteran's Day parade during that time. He will be truly missed.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn A. (Pollock) Berg, his children Vicki L. Berg of Black Canyon City, AZ, Michael D. Berg and wife Tricia of Victorville, CA, Valerie (Berg) Goodno and husband Ernie of Manchester, Casey J. Berg, and Matthew W. Berg of Plymouth. Grandchildren Stephanie, Amanda, Brandon, Taylor, Kasea, Alyssa and Adelina.
A graveside service will be held in the Blair Cemetery, Blair Road, Campton, on Wednesday, Sept. 26th, at 11am. The Rev. David Kneeland, pastor of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Lincoln, will officiate.
