MEREDITH-Charlotte Ann Reed, (86) passed away peacefully at Mountain Ridge Nursing home in Franklin, NH on March 9, 2018
Charlotte was born on February 15, 1932 in Pawnee City, NE the daughter of, James and Agnes (Byrne) Settles.
Charlotte grew up in Burchard, NE, after graduation she enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving in the Air Force, she met and married Fred C. Reed, they started a family in California where they were stationed. When they left the service, they moved to West Peabody, MA, and then to Meredith, NH, where she became a single parent raising her family by herself and with help from her mother, Agnes Settles. They moved to Palmyra, Nebraska and then eventually returning to Meredith, NH to make her home on Lake Wicwas, which she loved, but she never learned to swim.
She retired from United States Post Office in Meredith.
Charlotte enjoyed going to church, playing cards, gardening, playing horseshoes, dancing, teaching her kids to play the guitar, and she loved spending time with friends and family. During her retirement, she traveled around the country to Hawaii, Arizona, and Nebraska. She was very close to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very active in the American Legion.
She was predeceased by her parents, a son; Steven L. Reed, Brothers; James Michael Settles, Donald Eugene Settles, sister; Susan R. Wenzel grandchildren; Sean Reed, Hope Reed.
Charlotte is survived by her sister Mary L. Dinges of Portland Oregon; children; Donald A. Reed and his wife Diane of Gilmanton, Iron Works, Susan M. Kenney and her husband Bruce of Meredith, NH, James F. Reed and his wife Elita of Andover, NH, Fred M. Reed and his wife Laurie of Meredith, NH, Grandchildren; Steven, Donald Jr., Susan, Angela, Richard, Justin, Justine, Jakob, Dillan, Michael and Ryan. Great Grandchildren; Isabel, Aria, Sean and Stephanie, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours for Charlotte will be held on Saturday, Mar. 17, from 1-3pm at the Mayhew Funeral Home, 204 D.W. Highway, Meredith, NH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 21, at 10:00 at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 300 NH Route 25, Meredith, NH. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery Meredith Center Road Meredith, NH.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Charlotte's memory to the, American Legion Post 33, 6 Plymouth Street Meredith, NH 03253.
