Catherine Grace Bourne, 75 of Gilford NH, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston MA.
She was born on February 19, 1948, in Plymouth, NH to James M. Cripps and Corinne M. Cripps of Holderness NH. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School in 1966. Catherine married Jonathan Bourne on Church Island in 1966. She operated Smith Piper General Store, a family business in Holderness continuing with the family traditions and incorporating her own unique style.
Catherine was a member of ATHA, White Mountain Woolen Magic, Belknap Quilters Guild and a volunteer at Canterbury Shaker Village. Her many interests and talents were rug hooking, perennial garden design, braiding rugs, soap making, horses and President of the Lakes Region Kennel Club, and spending time with her family and friends.
Catherine worked at Robbin’s Auto Parts (during her successful car racing days), Gunstock Ski Area for the Kiley Food Corporation, Belknap Gardens, Gateway Gardens, Beans and Greens, and Petal Pushers. Catherine created her own ‘Bourne to Bloom,’ business.
Catherine is survived by her twin children, David E. Bourne of Holderness and Deborah A. Bourne of Gilmanton NH; three granddaughters; daughter-in-law Jill Bourne; Norm Gouin with whom she shared a relationship with that spanned 38 years. Her beloved dog, Callie. Her brothers James Cripps, Gary Cripps and Jeffrey Cripps of Holderness.
A celebration of life will be held for Catherine at Church Landing in, The Winnipesaukee Ball Room in Meredith, NH on January 27 th from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.
