Brian Paul McCarthy, 60, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at his home after a period of declining health.

He was the son of the late Maurice and Bernadette (Ricard) McCarthy.

Born in Westford, Mass., on May 31, 1954; he grew up in Londonderry and Derry, NH. He was a 1972 graduate of Pinkerton Academy where he excelled in track and cross country, and was a member of the 1972 State Champion track team. He then served six years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He lived in Ashland for the past 32 years.

For the past four years, Brian served as the Executive Director of Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity, which was his true calling as he helped usher in the organization's biggest project ever, the Hedstrom Way sub-division, in Bristol and he also helped move and expend the ReStore. Under his leadership, five deserving families were able to move into new, safe, basic, energy efficient homes. Prior to that, he was President of the Flying Yankee Restoration Group and Executive Director of the Lincoln-Woodstock Chamber of Commerce. He also served as an editor and reporter for the Plymouth Record Enterprise for 22 years. He was also known throughout the area as the radio play-by-play voice of the Plymouth Regional High School Bobcat football team, a position he cherished for 30 years.

Brian is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Gayle (Paradis) McCarthy; his daughter, Erica Lin McCarthy of Alexandria; three brothers, Steven, of Boston, MA, Kevin, of North Carolina, and Scott, of Manchester; sisters, Susan Brochu, of Belmont, and Sharon Wheeler, of Windham; stepmother, Pauline McCarthy, of Loudon, and his beloved grandchildren, Brian James and Cassandra Lin McGuirk, both of Alexandria.
