Audrey M. O'Neill

July 10, 1928 — October 11, 2021

Longtime Plymouth resident Audrey Myerson O'Neill expired Monday October 11, 2021, at 8:30 pm in Hamden, Connecticut, after a seven-year struggle with dementia. She was 92 years old.

The daughter of Myer Myerson and Anne Dershawetz Myerson, Audrey O'Neill was born in Philadelphia on July 10, 1928. She studied at the University of Chicago on a scholarship from Philadelphia High School for Girls, commonly known as Girls' High, a college prep magnet school. At university, Audrey met Robert O'Neill, an Army veteran from Muncie, Indiana, who was there on the G.I. Bill. The two married in 1953 and lived in Greeley, Colorado and Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving to Plymouth with their two children Anne and Edward, in 1964.

In addition to taking care of her family, Audrey worked as a psychologist at the Greater Manchester Mental Health Center and later as a school psychologist in a number of school districts, including Laconia and Hookset.

For the first 20 years of her career, she focused on teaching and helping children with intellectual disabilities. Starting in the mid-1970's, she focused mostly on educational testing as part of the special education process.

In her spare time, Audrey enjoyed sewing and made many of her own patterns. Her sewing machines and collection of buttons were given to friends in the area before she moved away from Plymouth in the summer of 2014 after 50 years of residency.

Audrey's husband Robert Eugene O'Neill died on July 21, 2003, of congestive heart failure, and her daughter Anne Susan O'Neill died July 23, 2015, as the result of medical treatment. Audrey is survived by her son, Edward Robert O'Neill, 59, of New Haven, Connecticut.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth on Tuesday, Nov. 2nd, from 4pm to 5:30pm, with a time to share memories at 4:30pm.
