Arnold W. Clifford, 67, of Bridgewater, passed away unexpectedly at Speare Memorial Hospital, in Plymouth, on Wednesday, February 4, 2015.
Born in Plymouth on August 3, 1947 he was the son of Earl M. and Virginia Jean (Schofield) Clifford. Arnold was raised in Plymouth and he graduated from the Plymouth High School. At the age of 21 he enlisted with the U.S. Army and served his country with honor and courage with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. Arnold was awarded many medals for his service, he was also a recipient of the Purple Heart.
His working career includes several years at the Beebee River Mill, he served as a Firefighter and Police Officer with the Town of Plymouth, he worked at the Napa Auto Store in Plymouth for a number of years, and he retired from the Plymouth Post Office. In his retirement he worked for the All Ways Green Landscaping Co. and the Jim Heal Excavating Co.
In his life Arnold enjoyed camping, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and taking trips to the ocean and his beloved dog Snowball. Arnold loved spending time with his family, and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who've affectionately known him as "Papa". He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted partner, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a friend to all.
Arnold is predeceased by his wife, Sarah (Piper) Clifford, in 1992.
He is survived by his beloved partner of 20 years, Clara M. Cass, of Bridgewater; son, Jeremy W. Clifford, of Bridgewater; daughter, Julie M. Tatham, of Plymouth; step-daughter, Cynthia J. Monroe, of Campton; five grandchildren, Sarah, Mackenzie, Timothy, Kirsten, Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Candice, Saige, Dena Rae, Avery; four brothers, George Clifford and his wife Donna, of Plymouth, Robert and Randall Clifford, both of Danforth, ME, Earl M. Clifford, Jr., of Menefee, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
