Alice H. Steele, 92, a long-time resident of Thornton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at her home with her niece Sandy by her side.
A hard working, strong, independent person; she enjoyed people, food, life, and nature, especially birds. To some she may have seemed stern; but she had a big heart and showed kindness to everyone and everything. Alice loved and devoted her life to God; she was a faithful member of the Laconia Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Alice enjoyed her last days at home eating lots of watermelon and popcorn, and liked gummy bears as a special treat. She liked sitting on her front porch looking for Indians and talking and laughing with her close friend Cindy, whom she loved very much. Alice and Cindy spent many happy hours together during the last two months of her life.
In her life, Alice endured many hardships, but made up her mind long ago to always make the best of things, and never became bitter. She was thankful for all she had, and thanked others for favors and kindness shown to her. Alice was a good cook, seamstress, braided rug maker, caregiver, and a friend to many. She worked many years alongside her late beloved husband, Everett Steele at the Thornton Central School as a Janitorial Team.
She has touched many lives and will be missed dearly.
She leaves behind a brother-in-law, Roger Steele, and many nieces and nephews.
