Alice R. Garland, 100, of US Route #3, died April 10, 2009, at GoldenView Health Care Center, Meredith, NH.Born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 24, 1909, she was the daughter of George and Alice [Stevenson] Robertson.She moved to Bedford, NH in 1915, where she grew up and was educated in Bedford schools.  She graduated from West High School, Manchester, class of 1926, and from the former Plymouth Normal School, now Plymouth State University, class of 1928.  She met Clinton W. Garland in 1930 and they weremarried in 1931.  Since her marriage she has been a resident of Campton.She taught elementary education in a one-room school in Tuftonboro and in Tilton.  Alice and her husband continued his parents business that was known as Riverview Farm overlooking the Pemigewasset River, where they were known for their Tourist Home and their homemade maple sugar candy.She was the current recipient of the Boston Cane from the town of Campton, as the oldest town resident.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Campton Grange, and the Campton Congregational Church.Alice cherished her family, friends, faith, and home.  She had a love for bird watching, reading, gardening, cooking, baking, picnics, drives on Sunday afternoons, and her visits with family and friends.She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton , who died in 1958, her only daughter, Nancy Starrett, eldest son, Robert and his son, John, her siblings Frederick Robertson,  Ethel Robertson, Elizabeth Mulroy, and Phyllis Davis.She is survived by her sister Dorothy Hooper of Bedford,  John and Nancy Garland, Steve and Linda Garland, and Robert's wife Anita, 10 grandchildren, Michael, Bruce,Tony Garland, Pamela Starrett-Ingalls, Judith Bell, Catherine Silver, Debbie Zampieri, Jeffrey Garland, Bethani and Travis Garland, and 16 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.Memorials:In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pemi-Baker Home Health and Hospice, 258, Highland St, Plymouth, NH. 03264. Visitation:There are no calling hours.  Service:A graveside service will be held in the Blair Cemetery, Campton, on Sunday, at 2:30pm.  The Rev. Margaret Bickford, will officiate.
