Adolphina Kathryn (Kay) Simpson of West Rumney, NH passed away in her 100th year with her family at her side at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth on Friday, June 19, 2015.
Born on October 15, 1915 in Rumford, Maine, She was the daughter of Anton and Stephanie (Jierjeruauska) Jasud.
Kay graduated from Rumford High School and Bay Path Institute in Springfield, MA where she studied Secretarial Science. Kay worked for several years in various Boston area businesses including Trailways Bus Lines.
Kay married Henry E. Simpson of Rumney NH in 1947 and they celebrated 54 years of marriage until his death in 2002. After her marriage, her career was centered locally in the business offices of Dr. John Archibald, Plymouth State College, and Adam's Supermarket.
Kay served the Rumney community with terms on the Rumney Planning Board, the Rumney School Board, and as school treasurer. Later in life she served as an election volunteer and assisted the librarian at the Rumney Library.
Kay was the proud recipient of the Boston Post Cane in 2014, an honor bestowed upon the oldest resident by the Town of Rumney.
Kay was a skilled seamstress and baker. She enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts, reading, gardening and spending time at the ocean.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Riess and husband Michael of Plymouth NH, her son Frank Simpson of West Rumney, NH, and her daughter Mary Jo Jansson and husband Richard of Bedford NH. Her grandchildren, Scott Riess, Kaitlyn Simpson and Jeannine Greer-Carney have brought great joy to her life. She has several nieces and nephews throughout the United States and Europe.
