Obituary

Dr. Ralph W. Reynolds, of Holderness, New Hampshire, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 5, 2020. Dr. Reynolds was 94. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of Dr. Kenneth C. Reynolds and Ruth (Jones) Reynolds. Dr. Reynolds graduated from Phillips Academy-Andover in 1943 and went on to Columbia University where he received his undergraduate degree. He later received a degree from Andover Newton Theological School and was ordained as an American Baptist minister, after which he served as a minister in several churches in New England, the Midwest and New Jersey. He also earned a Doctor of Ministry from Andover Newton Theological School in 1973.

After retiring from the ministry, he was employed as a mental health counselor in southern New Jersey and as a part-time church organist until his retirement. He was especially proud of having played over 54 different organs in various locations from coast to coast.

Dr. Reynolds was known for his keen sense of humor and the many entertaining stories that he enjoyed sharing with family, friends and acquaintances of all ages. An avid sailor, Ralph enjoyed sailing his boat out of Camp Ellis in Saco, Maine, and in New Jersey. He had a lifelong love of music and was a talented organist in his own right. In his later years, Dr. Reynolds enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.

Dr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Mary Bohn Reynolds of Holderness, New Hampshire; his son, Jonathan W. Reynolds and Terry Grieve of Farmington, Michigan; grandchildren Rachel A. Reynolds and Joel J. Reynolds of Winnetka, Illinois; his daughter and son-in-law, Attorneys Deborah R. Reynolds and Michael F. Conklin of Plymouth, New Hampshire; and grandson Michael C. Conklin of New York City, New York. Another grandson, James W. Conklin, predeceased him. His daughter, Elizabeth A. Reynolds, of Novato, California, also survived him. Other family members include stepson Wayne Evelo and his wife, Stacie Evelo, of Tijeras, New Mexico, and their children, Alex Evelo and Devon Evelo; and stepson Eric Evelo and wife Dena Evelo of Qauntico, Maryland, and their daughters, Abby and Emily. He will also be missed by Mary’s children and grandchildren; Fred and Yvette Bohn, and Matt, Phil, Elizabeth and Grace; Janet and Bob Labonville of Hooksett, New Hampshire and Janet’s daughter Heather Knutson; and nieces Beth Scherfee, of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Meg Scherfee of Santa Rosa, California.

Dr. Reynolds’ family is deeply grateful for the love and concern he received this past year from many members of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ as well as friends and neighbors from the Plymouth area.

No services are planned at the present time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Committee, Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 86, Plymouth, New Hampshire, 03264.
