HOLDERNESS ---Harold E. Benedix “Bennie” (92) passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on October 21, 2018.

Harold was born in Manchester, NH November 4, 1925 the son of Henry and Ethel Benedix (Davis). Harold started school in Manchester, NH and moved to Lawrence, MA when he was 10. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1944.
While in his senior year of high school he enlisted into the United States Navy, serving on the USS Fechtler DE 157, which was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat. He continued to serve in the Navy on the USS Alvin C. Cocrell for the duration of WWII.

On June 19, 1949 he married Claire Friedrich and together they had two children Gary Benedix of Campton, NH and the late Glenn Benedix. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Harold was employed by the Courier Citizen Company for 25 years. During this time they lived in Pelham, NH, before moving to Holderness, NH in 1989. Bennie loved skiing and his best times on the slopes were as a ski instructor at Tenny Mountain, Ragged Mountain and Bretton Woods. When he was not skiing he loved hiking, camping, and spending time at the lake with his family. Harold was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, MA and he was a member of the Masons in Lawrence, MA. While growing up he was a boy scout and continued to be active in Troop 2 in Lawrence, MA for most of his adult life.

Bennie is survived by Claire, his loving wife of 69 years, his son Gary Benedix of Campton,NH, his daughter in law; Ellie Monroe, of Dracut, MA, brother; Raymond Benedix and his wife Anne of Lawrence, MA, grandchildren; Mathew Benedix, Christine Patronick, Nicholas Benedix, Erich Benedix, Great Grandchildren; Kayleigh Benedix, Benjamin Patronick, Miles Patronick, Katherine Benedix and many nieces and nephews.

Harold is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Ethel Benedix, son Glenn Benedix, sister; Evelyn Howard, and brother in laws Edward Howard and Alfred Friedrich.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New England Ski Museum, 135 Tramway Drive, Franconia, NH 03580.
