Roger Lovering

Roger Lovering passed away in his sleep on September 14, 2024. He was 66 years old when he passed. Roger was born in Portsmouth, NH on December 30th, 1957, to Betty and Richard Lovering Sr. They spent many years stationed around the world with the U.S. Air Force. The places that Roger talked about the most being Japan and Hawaii. Roger went to Raymond High School and graduated in 1975. Roger dedicated early years of his life to the U.S. Air Force. After his time in the Air Force, Roger spent 10+ years working with Textron, travelling between New Hampshire and New Mexico for all those years. After working at Textron, Roger joined his brother, Richard Lovering Jr, at Lovering Volvo, where he worked the remaining 30+ years of his life. Roger lived all 66 years of his life to the fullest possible, and he made sure those around him did too. For the last 25+ years of his life, Roger and his brother, Rich, went on an annual golf trip to Scottsdale, Arizona (Roger’s favorite place to go), and in 2023 Roger won their annual golf trophy. Roger TRAVELLED. He’s been to Japan, Italy, Dominican Republic, Spain, Sweden, France, Denmark, and, as he would proudly say, all 50 states in the United States. Each place he came back from came with a story of a phenomenal restaurant he went to while there. Anyone that knew Roger knew he was a foodie. He always had the best place to go, the best new recipe, the best new cooking method, or the best new ingredient that you HAD to try. Roger was always the grill-master, in charge of bringing and cooking the meat, at any gathering he participated in, and there were a lot. From his brother's annual Fourth of July party, to birthdays, holidays, Patriot’s game watch parties, or just him getting his friends together, Roger would be cooking (even if you told him he didn’t have to). With the food came the drinks, where Roger always brought or had an obscure new bourbon or red wine for everyone to try. When in doubt, he always had the Johnnie Walker black on the rocks (and yes black label is better than blue label). Roger was a “yes man”. If you asked Roger for help, the answer was yes. Always. Roger went above and beyond for the people around him. He would do anything for his friends and family and showed that every single day. He would drive anywhere you asked, including multiple times across the country for his daughter, he would pick something up for you, he would drive to a different state to help you pick up a car, he would install something for you, lend you anything you needed, if Roger loved and cared about you, there was no limit to what he would do for you. He was a real shirt off his back kind of person. Since the passing of his mother in 2015, Roger was doing everything he could to help his father in Deerfield, NH, mowing his lawn weekly, taking him out for lunch, and overall, just being there for him. Roger was well-known. He could – and would – make friends anywhere. Whether it’s whoever was lucky enough to sit next to him at the bar, to people at work or at car shows, he would make a new friend wherever he was. Roger was a genuine, kind-hearted person, whose laugh will be missed by everyone who knew him. Roger had many friends, known as The Ripples and The Irregulars, whom he cared about very much, from weekly cribbage nights, to wine down Wednesday, Roger was out doing something nearly daily. The true loves of his life were his parents, his siblings, and his daughter. He was the baby to his parents, Betty and Richard, and could do no wrong in their eyes. He was the youngest to his sister Vicki Hamblen, and brother Richard, and would talk to them daily whether it was golfing, eating, or just to talk. Roger’s daughter, Mackenzie, was his "little girl". He told EVERYONE about Mackenzie. Everyone. From trying new food places to traveling the world together, they did a lot together whenever they could. There’s so much more someone could say about Roger and his life, but words can only do so much. If you want to do something in memory of Roger Lovering, try a new food, have a Johnny Walker black on the rocks, or do something for someone you love. If you live your life how Roger did, life is BFB. Roger leaves behind many, many friends throughout New Hampshire. Roger is survived by his daughter, Mackenzie Lovering, of Myrtle Beach, SC, his father, Richard Lovering Sr of Deerfield, NH, his sister Vicki Hamblen, her husband Joe Hamblen of Moultonborough, NH and their family, his brother Richard Lovering Jr, his wife Linda Lovering of Meredith, NH and their family, as well as his cousin Paul Keyser and his wife Karen Keyser of Moultonborough, NH. Roger is survived further by cousins throughout New England, California, and Kentucky. Services will be held at a later date.
