Born on May 21, 1942, in Sewickley, PA, Jim was the son of the late James and Marjorie (Jones) Boyd.
Jim graduated from the Ligonier Valley High School, in Ligonier, PA. After graduating, he enlisted and spent the next four years in the US Marine Corps.
After serving his country, Jim furthered his education at Edinboro State College, in Edinboro, PA. It was there that he raised his family with his former wife Marjorie. In Edinboro, Jim served as a police officer prior to becoming the owner and operator of Boyd's Edinboro Exxon. After many years of successful ownership, he sold the service station and took a position with IBM, then later transferred to their Michigan office.
In the early 90's, Jim left Michigan to return to his boys in Edinboro, PA. There, he started his own construction company, Residential Rescue. When he was diagnosed with a long-term illness, he moved to live and work with his brother Bob near Philadelphia. After a few years of successful medical treatment he made the decision to move to again be near his sons and their families in Thornton, NH.
Jim was an energetic, bright eyed and charismatic man with a contagious smile and wit. He always put the needs of others ahead of his own and was committed to his family and community. He was known for going the extra mile to make sure things were done right. He was never afraid of a challenge and was always willing to roll up his sleeves to get the job done. He was a proud man who loved his family and friends and will be missed by so many.
Jim leaves behind his sons, Jeb and Matt Boyd along with their families. He was known as the beloved "Poppy" by his three grandchildren, Tucker (son of Jeb and Holly), as well as Emily and Maggie (daughters of Matt and Georgie). He is survived by his brother, Bob and his three children, Mike, Jennifer and Katie and (Mike's son) Jack.
