Robert Charles Barach, 82, of Meredith, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health.
Born in New Haven, CT, on February 6, 1931, he was the son of Howard and Ethel (Abrams) Barach. Robert was raised in New Haven, attending local schools. Upon high school graduation Bob enlisted with the U.S. Army and served with courage and honor during the Korean War. Upon returning, he graduated from Boston University, with a Bachelors degree in History.
In his life Bob was the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustments for many years in the Town of Campton; there is nothing he enjoyed more than a visit to the town office for either a chat or official business. As a young man starting out he worked as an Executive Vice President for Burbank & Co., a brokerage firm in Boston. In later years he was in real estate and was a dealer of antiques, in NH.
Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his dogs and being outdoors. He was a lifelong sailor, hiker and skier. His love of sailing dates back to his childhood, growing up on the water in Madison, CT. As an adult he enjoyed ocean racing to Halifax and Bermuda, or just being out for a day-long sail. Bob loved being, "on the water."
Later in life Bob and his wife Isabel moved their family up to Ellsworth Hill, in West Campton, NH. It was there that bob developed his deep appreciation for the mountains. It is Bob's legacy to his children and grandchildren to share in his passions for all that the world has to offer, for this has made the world a better place for all those whose lives were touched by him.
Bob's last 2 years were spent at the Meredith Bay Colony Club, with his beloved "Izzy" by his side. He was wrapped in love and compassion by the wonderful staff that cared for him there.
Bob is survived by his wife Isabel Ann (Hollister) Barach, of Meredith; children, Anne H. Barach, of Meredith, Bobby Barach and wife Bally Thun, of Nova Scotia, Canada, Peter Barach and wife Debra, of Holderness; grandchildren, Molly, of Laramie, WY, Madalyn Stevens, of Meredith, Marisa and Anya Barach, of Holderness, Dasha Barach, of Nova Scotia, Canada, sister, Susan Kahn of W. Hartford, CT, two nephews and a niece.
"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
