MOULTONBOROUGH --- Bernard Rolf Jansson, 94, of Moultonboro, NH departed this life surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 25, 2024. He passed away in the early morning hours due to heart failure.
Bernard was born May 27, 1930, in Terjarv, Finland on the second floor of the family
house. He was the son of the late Fride and Wendla Jansson. Bernard traveled to the
United States at the age of seven with his family who then settled in The Bronx, New
York City. Bernard learned English and eventually attended The High School of Music
and Art in Manhattan and then Columbia University where he played for the football,
basketball, and baseball teams. After graduation, Bernard was hired by AT&T. Soon
after, he met Barbro Bursell. They were married in 1956 and settled in Haworth, NJ.
Bernard continued to work for AT&T until 1990. He then retired on Lake Winnipesaukee
in New Hampshire where he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and painting using
watercolor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Henry and sister,
Ruth Alkvist.
Bernard is survived by a sister, Barbara and her husband, Joe Viviani. He is also
survived by his three children Larry Jansson and his wife Susan of Haworth, NJ, Linda
Oakes and her husband Mike of New Hampton, NH, and Paul Jansson and his wife
Susan of Arvada, CO. Bernard (aka Poppie) was blessed to have six grandchildren,
Katherine, Kevin, Hope, Emma, Sean, and Anneka as well as two great grandchildren,
Filippa and Isla.
He will always be remembered for his love for his family, charming sense of humor, and
patience. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandpa.
The family would like to give special thanks to all of Bernard’s caregivers, especially
Tina Gosnell.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Tenafly, NJ. The service will be held at 11:00 AM followed by a gathering in
the church Living Room.
